Our Story
Its Family - Ofcourse it's a long one.
Batter Craft is more than just a food brand – it’s a heartfelt story of family, resilience, and care passed through generations.
It all began with my uncle, Shankar, who started working at the age of 10, running a small puncture shop. Through grit and perseverance, he eventually began repairing and selling motors across India. Over the years, he saved enough to invest in milling machinery and, with his wife Sumi (my aunt), set up a small family-run mill.
But it didn’t stop there – Shankar modified the motors to grind grains finer than most commercial mills. Soon, word spread. Local restaurants and villagers from neighboring towns began lining up at our mill for the quality of the grind alone.

Thus, Batter Craft was born – a brand inspired by a mom’s care, a family’s grit, and the belief that real food is powerful when made with intention.
During this time, our grandmother struggled with diabetes. In response, my aunt began experimenting with low glycemic grains like green gram, horse gram, and barley to create everyday staples – dosas, idlis, chapatis – that would support her health. The results were remarkable. Not only did my grandmother benefit from the diet, but my aunt and mother – both genetically predisposed to blood sugar issues – began experiencing better weight management and improved glucose control.
This wasn’t a trend or diet. It was just real food.
Carefully chosen. Thoughtfully prepared. And deeply rooted in love.
As someone who travelled frequently for work, I began to miss both the taste and nourishment of home. Especially dosas – in many places, they were overpriced and tasted far from authentic. That's when my brother and I decided it was time to build something meaningful. We knew this formula could benefit many others who sought healthy, traditional meals without compromising on convenience or taste.
